47 Hurt As UW Marching Band Bus Crashes On I-90
The bus rolled over in slick conditions along I-90 near George on Thanksgiving night.
GEORGE, WA - A charter bus carrying the University of Washington marching band rolled off I-90 near George on Thanksgiving, but police are reporting there were no serious injuries in the crash. The bus crash in icy conditions, blocking a road alongside the highway for hours.
The University of Washington and Washington State Patrol said 56 people were on board the bus. Up to 47 of them were taken to the hospital, two were still at the hospital Friday afternoon. The Injuries were limited to cuts, back pain, and other pain, UW spokesman Victor Balta said in a statement.
According to Washington State Patrol, the crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. The bus was one of five carrying UW band members heading toward Pullman for the Apple Cup. Close to midnight, emergency responders were able to right the bus and recover all the students' luggage and band equipment.

A total of 280 students and adult supervisors were part of the caravan headed to Pullman. The buses not involved in the crash were stationed at a school in George.
The marching band will not continue on to the Apple Cup, however.

"The University of Washington is doing everything it can to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, and to get them safely back on their journey to Pullman," Balta said in the statement.
