Deputy Shoots, Kills Man At Sounder Station

The shooting happened Thursday morning when the deputy recognized a stolen car.

KENT, WA - A King County deputy shot and killed a man Thursday morning at the Kent Sounder station, according to the sheriff's department.

The shooting happened after the deputy, a 28-year veteran, confronted a man who may have been driving a stolen car. The man reportedly reached for an AR-15 rifle, which is when the deputy opened fire. The man died later at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

"The deputy attempted to take the driver (suspect) into custody. The suspect, an 18 year old Hispanic male, armed himself with an AR-15 rifle. He started to struggle with the deputy inside and then outside of the vehicle. The deputy fired a single shot at the suspect striking him once," King County Sgt. Ryan Abbott wrote in a press statement.

Two other suspects were arrested by Kent police in connection to the incident.

This is the first suspect killed by a King County deputy in 2018, and the first since Tommy Le was shot and killed last summer.
