Memorial For Ferry Worker Killed In Hit-And-Run Unveiled
Katie Phillips, a WSDOT ferry worker, was killed in March when she stopped to help another motorist with car trouble.

PORT ORCHARD, WA - The Washington State Department of Transportation unveiled a memorial Thursday in memory of Katie Phillips, a ferry worker who was killed in March by a hit-and-run driver. The memorial reminds drivers to be safe.
Around 5 a.m. on March 22, Phillips, who lived in Belfair, was on her way home from work at the Southworth ferry dock when she noticed a car stopped along SR 160. Phillips stopped to help the stranded driver, Katy Meeker, 34, of Sequim.
In early April, state police arrested Dominic L. Dixon, 33, of Kent, on a felony hit-and-run charge.

Phillips left behind a husband and two sons. Meeker was not injured in the incident.
Phillips' memorial sign stands on the spot where she was hit. The sign reads, "Please drive safely, in memory of Katie Phillips."
