Free Entry To WA State Parks, National Forests On Saturday

Happy National Trails Day - national forests and state parks are free on Saturday.

NORTH BEND, WA - Enjoy free access to Washington state parks and National Forest lands on Saturday, which is National Trails Day. Hikers will be able to park free at trails around the region, and use services like picnic sites.

National Trails Day always falls on the first Saturday in June and is meant to celebrate the thousands of miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and other activities around the region. There will also be stewardship events nearby - 29 in Western Washington alone.

"This fee waiver includes many picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads, and visitor centers. Concession operations will continue to charge fees unless the permit holder wishes to participate. Fees for camping, cabin rentals, heritage expeditions, or other permits still apply. No fees are charged at any time on 98 percent of national forests and grasslands, and approximately two-thirds of developed recreation sites in national forests and grasslands can be used for free," the National Forest Service wrote in a press release about National Trails Day.
