Gig Harbor Inmate Sues Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct

A woman serving a murder sentence in Gig Harbor says a prison guard sexually assaulted her twice in 2016.

GIG HARBOR, WA — A woman incarcerated at the Washington Corrections Center for Women in Gig Harbor has filed a lawsuit alleging a prison guard sexually assaulted her twice in 2016. The News Tribune reports the 46-year-old inmate is seeking unspecified damages and claims the Department of Corrections would not provide her with a record of its investigation.

Corrections officials denied the allegations and the suspected officer — who now works in a state records unit — has not been criminally charged. The Associated Press reports the woman is serving a 30-year sentence for the 1996 murder of a Spokane woman.
