How Local Teen Driver Safety Stacks Up Statewide
A recent study looked at how teens in Pierce and King counties stack up against their peers from around the state.

SEATTLE, WA - A new study compares teen drivers from across the state found Asotin County is the most dangerous in the state. King County ranked 22 in the study and Pierce County ranked 11.
Of King County's 2,962 serious crashes, 9% involved a teen driver, the study found. In Pierce County, 11% of all serious crashes involved a teen driver.
In Asotin County, teens accounted for almost 20% of all serious crashes. There were only five serious crashes involving teens, but the rural county has a small population of 21,623. Crashes in rural areas have a greater tendency to be fatal.

The study noted that between 2013 and 2017, Washington had 11,275 serious vehicle accidents; 1,188 — or 10.5% — involved a teen driver.
The study was conducted by Davis Law Group and looked at WSDOT data from the last five years.
