'Infectious Complications' Of Elder Abuse Killed Everett Woman

MILL CREEK, WA - An 81-year-old woman found clinging to life on the floor of her Mill Creek-area home in December later died of "infectious complications involving elder abuse," the Snohomish County Medical Examiner has ruled. Irene M. Strandt was found on the floor of her home Dec. 1 suffering from a broken hip, and she died Dec. 17.
Strandt's son, Kenneth, 53, has been charged in her death with first-degree criminal mistreatment. His trial is set to begin on April 20 in Snohomish County Superior Court. Irene Strandt's manner of death was ruled a homicide.
According to the Everett Herald, Strandt was found on the floor of her "filthy" home along the 5000 block of 135th Place Southeast suffering from a broken hip. In court documents, a doctor said he had "never seen anything as bad as this" in regards to Strandt's condition.
