Woman Dies After Driving Off Anacortes Ferry Dock
The crash shut down ferry service to the San Juan islands for hours Saturday.

ANACORTES, WA - A Jeep drove through a barrier at the Anacortes state ferry dock Thursday morning. Ferry service to the San Juan Islands was suspended due to a search-and-rescue mission, according to Washington State Patrol.
Rescue crews recovered the body of a 30-year-old woman from Everett after pulling the Jeep out of the water.
Trooper Heather Axtman said the driver broke through wooden crossing arms before entering Puget Sound. Axtman said the driver was traveling at a "high rate of speed," but police did not know if the woman intentionally drove into Puget Sound.

Seventeen ferries leave the Anacortes dock each weekday serving Friday Harbor, and Orcas, Shaw, and Lopez islands. It's the only state ferry route that serves the San Juan Islands.
