OLYMPIA, WA — A man was arrested Tuesday morning after trying to scale a fence outside the Governor's Mansion, according to Washington State Patrol. Troopers said a man in his early 30s walked up to the fence on the west side of the property and was spotted by security as he started to climb. When confronted, the man jumped down and ran away.

A trooper found him a few minutes later, slightly northeast of the location, and he was booked into jail on suspicion of criminal trespassing and possession of a controlled substance. The man's motives were not immediately known and WSP could not say whether the governor was home at the time.
