National Weather Service Confirms Tornado Near Tenino
NWS Seattle says video confirms a weak tornado touched down in the Tenino/Grand Mound area.
SEATTLE, WA — A weak tornado briefly touched down on a hillside southeast of Grand Mound, the National Weather Service said Friday. It was seen just south of the speedway and captured on video around 2 p.m. Using that footage, meteorologists were able to confirm the event was, in fact, a tornado. NWS Seattle is asking anyone with more photos or video of the tornado to send it to them, along with any reports of damage.
A preliminary report says the tornado touched down in a field with no buildings south of Tenino Grand Mound Road. Since there have been no reports of damage or injuries, NWS does not plan to physically send a team there and assigned it a strength rating of EF-U (or unknown). Meteorologists believe the tornado was less than 50 feet wide and less than 100 feet long. It touched down for roughly one minute.
