Parkland Man Killed During Confrontation With Deputies
Deputies said a knife-wielding man threatened his family and law enforcement before being shot Sunday night.

PARKLAND, WA — A Parkland man was shot and killed by Pierce County deputies Sunday night after he threatened to kill his family, according to investigators. Deputies arrived at a house on 115th Street South shortly before 6:30 p.m. on reports of a drunk man armed with a knife and making threats.
The News Tribune reports Curtis French, 56, confronted deputies on his porch, while holding a knife, and deputies opened fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Tacoma PD has taken over the investigation into the incident, and the deputies involved are on paid leave, per department policy. Further details on the circumstances that led to the shooting have not been released.
