Vegetable Recall Impacts Grocers, Consumers In Washington

More than 140 vegetable products sold at supermarkets in Washington and others across the United States have been recalled over potential listeria contamination. California-based Mann Packing Co. announced the voluntary recall.

The recall is a response to notification by the Food and Drug Administration and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency of a potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, the company said.

The recalled products have a “Best if Enjoyed By” date of Oct. 11, 2019, to Nov. 16, 2019. The packages were sold under a variety of brand names, including Walmart’s Marketside, Mann’s, HEB and Signature Farms.

Public health officials have not reported any illness associated with these products.

Trader Joe's announced the company's Baby Cauliflower product (SKU 66248), sold in Washington with "Best If Enjoyed By" dates between October 11, 2019 and November 16, 2019, also have the potential for listeria contamination.

"If you have purchased any of the Baby Cauliflower with the specified date codes, please do not eat it. Instead, we urge you to discard the product or return it to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Mann Packing said in its recall announced Sunday that customers who have products affected should dispose of them.
