Wash. Kids Are Underprivileged, New Study Shows
Washington is among the states with the highest number of "underprivileged" kids.

OLYMPIA, WA - Poorly educated and lacking in socio-economic welfare. That's what a new study ranking how "underprivileged" kids are in the U.S. says about Washington.
Washington came in No. 26 overall, but scored worse on individual factors ranking education attainment and socio-economic welfare, which includes factors like the share of kids living in foster care or living homeless. Washington was No. 11 and No. 23 overall on those items, according to the WalletHub study.
"To determine where children are most disadvantaged, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 24 key indicators of neediness. Our data set ranges from share of children in households with below-poverty income to child food-insecurity rate to share of maltreated children," the study authors wrote.
