The Thursday evening crash closed the Hood Canal Bridge for eight hours, according to police.

PORT GAMBLE, WA - A 65-year-old woman died in a six-car crash on the Hood Canal Bridge Thursday evening. According to Washington State Patrol, the crash happened due to an erratic driver.

According to police, Eric Thompson, 47, of Hansville, was driving eastbound when he crossed into the westbound lanes. Thompson's vehicle sideswiped one vehicle, and collided with a second vehicle. That second vehicle swerved out of its lane to avoid the collision. Then, Thompson hit a Ford Ranger pickup driven by Debra Clyde, 65, of Port Ludlow, head-on. Clyde was declared dead at the scene.
