WSP Trooper Saves Overdose Victim At Seattle Ferry Terminal

The Washington State Patrol trooper found the victim in a bathroom at the downtown Seattle ferry terminal.

SEATTLE, WA - A Washington State Patrol trooper is being credited with saving the life of an overdose victim this week at the Colman ferry dock in Seattle. The trooper was carrying Narcan, a drug that can reverse an opioid overdose.

The trooper found the 25-year-old victim in a bathroom at the ferry terminal around 11 p.m. Sunday. The first trooper to respond administered Narcan, but it didn't work. A second arrived and began performing CPR while another trooper administered a second Narcan dose.

The overdose victim was taken to Harborview by Seattle fire for further treatment.

State patrol and other police departments in Washington have been distributing Narcan and similar drugs to officers amid an opioid epidemic. Seattle police have resuscitated more than 20 people in 2017 so far using a similar antidote, Naloxone.

"If it were not for the quick, life-saving actions of the troopers involved, as well as the availability of NARCAN, the outcome may have been much different," WSP spokesman Trooper Kyle Moore said in a press release.
