24K Pound Steel Beam Smashes I-90 In Bellevue

The beam fell off a truck and crushed a section of I-90 in Bellevue Monday morning.

BELLEVUE, WA - A 24,000 pound steel beam fell of a truck Monday morning along I-90, crushing a section of pavement along the shoulder. The spill happened along westbound I-90 just before the I-405 interchange, according to Washington State Patrol.

As of 10:30 a.m., crews were on scene trying to remove the beam, and police urged drivers to use caution in the area.

The beam certainly isn't the strangest object to obstruct traffic on a local highway. In 2015, a truck hauling salmon overturned on the Alaskan Way Viaduct, tying up traffic for hours. In April 2016, the same thing happened with a truck hauling crab.

In February, a truck hauling butane crashed along I-5 near downtown Seattle. The crash brought traffic literally to a standstill for hours. The jam was so bad that a taco truck caught in the mess opened up and started serving food to hungry motorists.
