Antonyms, the most recent series by Northwest artist Amy
Spassov, is in line with past exhibitions in that it is not in line at all. The impulsiveness and spontaneity are still present, but an ominous contrast has emerged.
Layers of collage and acrylic create a rich topography of objects, images and ideas referencing and contrasting one another. What is new in Spassov’s latest work is her insistence that we take time to explore our dissimilarities. Each piece is riddled
with antonyms adeptly placed in a manner that suggests that our differences, however big or small, are at the core of our magnificence.
