Bellevue Council Votes On Eastgate Men's Homeless Shelter
The City Council was almost split on approving the proposed Eastgate homeless shelter.

BELLEVUE, WA - The Bellevue City Council on Monday night gave the preliminary go-ahead to site a men's homeless shelter in the Eastgate area. The Council vote came down 4-3, but the Eastgate location isn't final yet. The Council will also look at two other sites over the next 45 days.
If approved, the shelter would be built near the Eastgate park-and-ride facility. The shelter - the first in Bellevue - would coast $23 million and could be complete by 2020. Eastgate-area residents have expressed concern about the facility being located too close to homes and Bellevue College.
The Eastgate location was chosen due to its proximity to transit and King County health facilities. The shelter would be operated by Congregations for the Homeless. That group operates a shelter that moves each month to a different church in Bellevue.

The other two sites the Council will consider are Lincoln Center and the under-construction Sound Transit light rail yard off of Northeast 12th Street near I-405.
