Police Disrupt Burglary Ring That Targeted Luxury Homes, Including the Mariners' Felix Hernandez

Three men have been arrested, accused of committing over 100 burglaries at luxury homes from Seattle to Bellevue.

BELLEVUE, WA - Police revealed on Wednesday that three men identified as the main players in a burglary ring that targeted luxury homes from Seattle to Bellevue - including the home of Mariners star pitcher Felix Hernandez - have been arrested.

The suspects were part of the Rock-Smash Burglary Crew - a name given to them by police because of how the suspects gained entry to homes - which committed a combined 123 burglaries in Bellevue, Seattle, Kirkland, Mercer Island, and other Eastside communities.

The burglars stole jewelry, handbags, and other property, police said, including Hernandez' 2015 MLB All-Star game ring and a $90,000 Hermes handbag. In total, police say they stole more than $3 million worth of goods.

Bellevue and Seattle police wrapped up the investigation this week, arresting the final two suspects in West Seattle, one who was said to be wearing a watch that belonged to Hernandez and was engraved with his moniker "King Felix." But the investigation was a joint effort between a number of agencies, including Kirkland, Mercer Island, King County Sheriff's Office, Washington State Patrol, and police from Medina and Clyde Hill.

"If you commit a crime in Kirkland, we will leverage the power of these partners to put you away for a long time," Kirkland police Chief Cherie Harris said.

Police cracked the burglary ring after a Mercer Island resident found a cell phone in their backyard in July that apparently belonged to one of the suspects. That allowed police to get a search warrant for the phone, which allowed them to locate the burglars.

The suspects used the proceeds of their burglaries, Bellevue Chief Steve Mylett said, on trips to strip clubs, expensive dinners, renting sports cars, and even a trip to Las Vegas. Police believe that the three men were likely armed during the robberies.

"We believe the motivations for these crimes was pure greed," Mylett said.

Mylett added that the amount of property stolen was the most in city history.
