Bellevue Rep Adam Smith Not Attending Donald Trump Inauguration

Smith is the second Puget Sound representative planning to skip the inauguration festivities.

BELLEVUE, WA - U.S. Rep. Adam Smith, D-Bellevue, says that he won't attend the inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump, opting to stay at home that day.

Smith confirmed his inauguration day plans in an interview with The Stranger published Monday. He denied that his absence is a protest against Trump, saying that he would just prefer to be home near his family on that day.

U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Seattle, has said that she won't attend Trump's inauguration in protest. She will spend Friday working with immigrant constituents.

More than 20 Democrats are protesting the inauguration. That's because of a recent feud between Trump and Georgia Congressman John Lewis. Lewis said that Trump is not a legitimate president, and Trump fired back - on Twitter - that Lewis was all talk, and that his Atlanta district is a mess.

Lewis was viciously beaten while marching in a civil rights protest in Selma, Ala., in 1965.
