Slatter resigned from the Council in January after being selected to fill the vacant state House seat left by Patty Kuderer. Kuderer was selected to fill the state Senate seat left by Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib, who was elected Lieutenant Governor in November.

The new member of Council will serve until November. The replacement, however, can run for election this year to serve the remainder of Slatter's term, which ends Dec. 31, 2019. All of the candidates selected by the Council are registered to vote in the city, and have lived here for at least one year.
