Bellevue Residents Seriously Injured In I-405 Hit-And-Run

The crash happened Saturday night along I-405 in Renton, according to Washington State Patrol.

RENTON, WA - Two Bellevue residents were seriously injured Saturday night in a hit-and-run crash along I-405 in Renton, according to Washington State Patrol. The crash happened just before 6 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-405 near the SR 167 interchange. The suspect in the crash escaped the scene and has not yet been found, according to state patrol.

Manuel Mejia, 49, and Daysi Melendez, 34, both of Bellevue, were heading northbound when the suspect vehicle changed lanes and crashed into them. There were two other teenage passengers in the car, but state patrol did not say which city they were from.

After the initial crash, Mejia's vehicle struck a barrier, and a third vehicle, driven by Kent Carson, 25, of Seattle, hit Mejia and Melendez. All four in Mejia's car were sent to Harborview for treatment. Carson was taken to Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Vasquez has since been released from the hospital, and Mejia is in satisfactory condition, according to the hospital.
