Cascade Water Alliance Celebrates 20 Years Of Service
The utility that serves much of the Eastside will hold workshops and a luncheon in Bellevue

From Cascade Water: Cascade Water Alliance will celebrate its 20th Anniversary Celebration on March 25th at the Meydenbauer Center highlighting its successful creation two decades ago and its track record of delivering water, working regionally on key issues and planning, and making sure residents will have water today and tomorrow.
Members of Cascade include Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond, Tukwila, Sammamish Plateau Water and the Skyway Water and Sewer District. Cascade serves almost 400,000 residents and 20,000 businesses. It also offers water efficiency and conservation programs, classes and outreach throughout the area, saving more than 70 million gallons of water per year.
Cascade was formed in 1999 when East and South King County cities and water districts joined together to have a voice and a vote in their water future. Since then, Cascade has purchased Lake Tapps reservoir in Pierce County for future use. Lake Tapps became the first new municipal water supply in the state in decades. Cascade developed and passed legislation to more efficiently serve its customers and works closely with other major regional utilities to ensure the region has clean, safe, reliable water for decades to come.

“By planning together today, we know we will have water where we need it for the next 50 to 100 years,” said John Stokes, chair of the Cascade board and a Bellevue City councilmember. “Residents know that the water that comes out of their tap will be safe, clean and reliable. They don’t have to think twice about it – because we at Cascade and our members do -- every day.”
Morning workshops will feature an update on the Water Supply Forum’s emergency response readiness findings, discussions around rates and affordability, and a presentation by Microsoft on environmental sustainability. Attendees will learn more about what each member city and district is doing to plan for a water secure future. The luncheon will honor the visionary leaders and partners who have been instrumental in Cascade’s 20-year history. There is no cost to attend the event, but reservations are required.
