BELLEVUE, WA — 2023 might feel like a long way off, but construction on Sound Transit's East Link light rail project has passed a major milestone.

The 10-stop, 14-mile line from Seattle to Redmond is now more than 50 percent complete.

Local officials were marking the occasion on Friday with a tour of the South Bellevue station, which now has a 1,500 stall parking garage and an elevated guide-way.

Once complete, East Link will whisk travelers from downtown Bellevue to the International District in about 20 minutes, which is probably less time than it takes to drive that distance in the dead of night with no traffic on I-90.

The line begins in Seattle where I-90 crosses over Rainier Avenue South, continues to Mercer Island, then Bellevue, and ends in Redmond in the Overlake area near Microsoft.
