ELEMENTAL AWARENESS GREAT NORTHWESTERN TOUR VISITS PORT GAMBLE S'KLALLAM TRIBE
Skateboarding meets environmental education for kids in this video from Element
Founded in 1992 by skateboarder Johnny Schillereff, Element has grown from a skateboard company to a global brand spanning hard goods, apparel and accessories for men, women, and boys and represented by the best skateboarders in the world.
Each year, the Element tradition is to take a trip to visit nature and embark on an Elemental Awareness Foundation journey. The Elemental Awareness Foundation is a non-profit associated with Element that is designed to educate and inspire kids about the world. This year, The Elemental Awareness Great Northwestern tour, visited the kids of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe just north of Seattle, Washington and the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana.
With a hands-on approach to environmental education, Elemental awareness connects kids to nature through skateboarding. By teaching kids survival skills in the natural world, their confidence and self esteem of knowing that they can take of themselves if need be is reassured and developed. The lesson is that no matter where you are from in the world, your predecessors lived off the land using the resources available to them.
At each stop on the Elemental Awareness Great Northwestern Tour, the Element team provided skateboards for those in need and spent time exchanging and appreciating each others’ knowledge of culture. Click here to watch the video: http://vimeo.com/117227223
