Family Sues Over Bellevue Street Sweeper Death
The street sweeper, operated by a private company, backed over Alexandru Culai, 44, in February 2018.
BELLEVUE, WA — The family of a 44-year-old man killed by a street sweeper last winter is suing a local construction company, claiming the driver of the machine failed to properly watch his surroundings.
Alexandru Culai was walking near a construction site along 120th Avenue Northeast on Feb. 18, 2018, when the street sweeper backed into him. He was pulled under the machine and killed.
"Early information indicates that the sweeper truck, which was being operated by a private contractor and was involved in construction activity at an apartment complex on the east side of the roadway, was backing up in a closed lane of 120th Avenue when the collision occurred," Bellevue police said last year after the accident.
