Huawei Cutting Dozens Of Jobs In Bellevue

The Bellevue layoffs are part of 600 jobs being cut from Huawei branches across the U.S.

BELLEVUE, WA — The U.S.-based research arm of Chinese telecom giant Huawei is cutting 600 jobs at offices across the country, including 41 at the Bellevue office.

The jobs will be cut from a research branch of Huawei called Futurewei Technologies, and is directly related to Huawei's products being blacklisted in the U.S., according to reports. The cuts announced this week represent about 70 percent of Futurewei's total U.S. workforce.

At the same time, Futurewei is looking to sub-lease its office space at the Plaza Center along Northeast 8th Street, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal.

The layoffs in Bellevue will begin on Sept. 23, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) bulletin from the state Department of Labor and Industries.
