I-405 Incident Wasn't Shooting, Was A Backfire

The incident happened late Sunday morning, according to Washington State Patrol.

BELLEVUE, WA — A possible shootout along I-405 in Bellevue Sunday morning turned out to just be a faulty emissions system, according to Bellevue police.

Police responded to near I-405 and SR 520 around 11:30 a.m. Sunday on a report of a shooting. Two vehicles were located, one driver pulled off the highway along 112th Avenue Southeast, and the other was found along Northeast 30th Street.

The two drivers were taken into custody, but police later determined that one of the cars had backfired.

"Three other vehicles were believed to be involved and BPD officers stopped the vehicles on I 405. WSP concluded that no firearm was discharged and the initial vehicle in the incident had a malfunctioning exhaust system which caused a loud backfire from the muffler. All subjects detained were released," Bellevue police said Monday afternoon.
