I-90 Westbound Lane Closures All Weekend: WSDOT

Reminder: westbound I-90 traffic will be routed onto the express lanes in Bellevue all weekend.

BELLEVUE, WA - Westbound travel on I-90 from Bellevue will likely be slow this weekend. This weekend is the first of three closures this spring so contractors can paint HOV lanes along the highway. The westbound lanes will close Friday night at 11 p.m. with westbound traffic being routed onto the express lanes after Bellevue Way.

I-90 will drop down to two lanes in the area of Bellevue Way and the I-405 interchange. One lane will be for traffic to Mercer Island, the other will be for traffic heading to Seattle.

The Washington state Department of Transportation plans to open HOV lanes in both directions between Bellevue and Seattle by June 3. After that, the express lanes will close so that construction on the East Link light rail project can begin. The other two upcoming I-90 lane closures will happen May 5 and May 12.

The lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, according to WSDOT. The re-striping work is weather-dependent, however. The forecast calls for rain all weekend, but WSDOT will still close lanes so contractors can do other work.
