Man Who Shot Himself In Bellevue Hotel Room Identified

The 25-year-old man apparently shot himself in the head while handling what he thought was an unloaded handgun.

BELLEVUE, WA - A 25-year-old man died in a Bellevue hotel room early Sunday morning while playing with a gun that he thought was unloaded, police are reporting.

Bellevue police went to Hotel 116 near the intersection of Northeast 8th Street and 116th Avenue Northeast around 3:30 a.m. on a report of an accidental shooting. They found the man in a room with a single gunshot wound to the head.

On Monday, the King County Medical Examiner identified the man as Jobani Perez of Seattle.

A 24-year-old woman who was in the room with the man told police he was playing with the gun. She asked him to stop, but he told her not to worry because the gun was unloaded. To demonstrate, he put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger, according to police.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, which is where he died.
