Meydenbauer Bay Beach Closed Due To Bacteria

The latest victim in a series of Lake Washington bacteria beach shut-downs is in Bellevue.

BELLEVUE, WA — It hasn't been easy to swim at Bellevue's Lake Washington beaches this summer.

Meydenbauer Bay Beach was shut down this week for high bacteria levels. Meanwhile, Newcastle Beach remained closed after a bacteria test came back high last week, according to King County health officials. Enatai Beach was closed earlier in the summer, too.

The Meydenbauer closure comes after the mean of the three most recent water samples — taken since July 29 — showed a high level of bacteria. Sometimes King County will close a beach based on just one sample.

King County will re-test the water next week to see if it's safe to reopen the beach. The other local beaches that are closed include Houghton Beach in Kirkland and Gene Coulon Beach in Renton.
