New Bellevue Fireworks Penalty Now In Effect

Get caught using fireworks in Bellevue, you'll be facing much stiffer penalties.

BELLEVUE, WA - Fireworks are illegal to sell or use in Bellevue, but every year, plenty of people break that law.

The city has adopted new penalties for breaking the fireworks ban, and they go into effect this week. Violators can now be charged with a civil violation and can now be fined up to $1,000. And that's $1,000 for each fireworks violation.

"Please remember that fireworks (big ones, small ones and everything in between) are extremely dangerous and all are banned in areas serviced by the Bellevue Fire Department. As we approach the summer season and plans get underway for Independence Day, please consider attending a public display of fireworks such as the downtown Bellevue Family 4th or the fireworks at Lake Boren in City of Newcastle," the Bellevue fire department warned Wednesday.
