New Bellevue Parking Law Starts Tuesday

There's a $42 fine attached to the changed Bellevue parking ordinance.

BELLEVUE, WA - If you park on the street in Bellevue, take note of the city's new parking law that goes into effect the day after Christmas. Cars parked for more than 24 hours in one spot on the same block will be fined $42 starting Dec. 26.

The 24-parking law has been changed to close a loophole. Right now, you can move your just a few inches and avoid a fine. Under the new law, you'll have to move your car to an entirely different block to avoid a fine.

The revised code (BCC 11.23.020) closes a loophole that allowed drivers to move their vehicles a few inches to avoid a ticket. The change means that people cannot store a vehicle in the same place on the street for an extended period. The vehicle must be moved to a different block every 24 hours to avoid a ticket which will cost $42 beginning Jan. 1, 2018, up from $40.

Questions about the change? Contact Bellevue police Sgt. Mike Shovlin at (425) 452-4210.
