Newcastle Beach Swimming Area Closed Due To Bacteria

Bellevue city officials said the park will remain open, but the beach is closed to swimmers until further notice.

BELLEVUE, WA — The city of Bellevue closed off the swimming area at Newcastle Beach Park on Thursday after high levels of bacteria were found in the water.

In a news release, city officials said the closure came at the direction of King County public health workers after routine tests detected bacteria and cyanotoxin at 17 beaches along Lake Washington. The swimming area will remain closed until bacteria counts return to low-risk levels.

The park itself remains open during the closure, and signs are posted alerted visitors of the swimming restriction. According to the city, swimming is still allowed at Bellevue's other beaches.
