Oldest Building In Bellevue Damaged By Stolen Car

The building at Chism Beach Park dates back to 1883.

BELLEVUE, WA - A suspect driving a car reported stolen from Renton crashed into Bellevue's oldest structure on Friday night, police are reporting. The driver of the car hit the Burrows cabin, which is located at Chism Beach Park along Lake Washington south of the downtown area.

Police responded to the park around 5 p.m. Friday on a report that a white KIA sedan had crashed into the cabin. Witnesses told police that the driver jumped out of the car after driving into the cabin and got into another car waiting nearby. Police did not locate the suspects.

According to the Bellevue parks department, the Burrows Cabin was moved to Chism Beach in August 2016. The cabin had been located along 112th Avenue Northeast in the downtown area. The cabin was built in 1883 by Civil War veteran Albert Burrows. The cabin was originally built at the end of Southeast 15th Street along Lake Washington, just south of Chism Beach.

Parks department spokeswoman Christina Faine told Patch that a tarp has been placed over the cabin and the area around it was cordoned off. The parks department is still trying to determine the condition of the cabin and figure how much it might cost to fix.
