Renton Motorcyclist Killed In Bellevue May Have Passed Illegally: Police

Bellevue police are saying that a motorcyclist may have died Sunday after making an illegal pass.

BELLEVUE, WA - A 53-year-old man who died after his motorcycle crashed along Lake Hills Boulevard Sunday night may have tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone moments before the crash, police are saying.

The accident happened Sunday night around 8:30 p.m. along the 15400 block of Lake Hills Boulevard, just south of Lake Larsen. At the scene, police found the Renton man in the roadway and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A female passenger on the motorcycle, also age 53, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. It was reported earlier that she had suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police closed the road for seven hours to investigate the crash. The road reopened around 3 a.m. Monday.

Police say that moments before the accident, it appeared the motorcyclist tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, which caused him to strike the center median and veer out of control. The motorcyclist was traveling westbound at the time of the crash. Police do not suspect that the driver was impaired at the time of the crash.
