Several Pets Die In Bellevue House Fire

The homeowner tried to rescue the animals, but was overcome by smoke, according to Bellevue fire.

BELLEVUE, WA — A fire that broke out in a home in Southeast Bellevue on Saturday left a dog and several birds dead, even as the homeowner tried to rescue the pets, according to fire officials.

Bellevue firefighters responded to a home along Southeast 27th Street near Spiritridge Elementary just before noon. The fire was located on the second floor of the homes, and flames were visible coming from the home when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters had the fire knocked down within minutes. One of the residents tried to run inside to save the pets, but suffered smoke inhalation, and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Firefighters tried to resuscitate the dog, but were unable.

The Red Cross responded to the scene to help the displaced residents, according to the fire department.
