Sound Transit Readying Start Of Bel-Red Light Rail Construction

The three-plus year project will close or alter some streets in the Bel-Red area.

BELLEVUE, WA - Sound Transit is getting ready to start construction in the Bel-Red area for a light rail station that will serve the East Link line beginning in 2023.

Construction will begin in early 2017 near Spring Boulevard Northeast between 130th Avenue Northeast and 136th Place Northeast. There will be street closures in the area throughout the duration of the project, which is expected to last at least 3-1/2 years. Construction crews may also turn Spring Boulvard into a one-way street for a portion of the project.

By the end of the project, the light rail line will run in the median along 136th Place Northeast and Spring Boulvard before continuing northeast along an elevated line toward Overlake Village near Microsoft.
