Tesla Is Victim In Bellevue Hit-And-Run, Not Pedestrian: Police

A pedestrian ran into the side of a moving Tesla recently. Bellevue police are accusing the pedestrian of hit-and-run.

BELLEVUE, WA - Usually when moving cars and pedestrians collide, the driver is at fault and the pedestrian ends up seriously injured. This time, Bellevue police say that the pedestrian was in the wrong after he ran into the side of a moving Tesla SUV in a busy intersection in the Crossroads area.

Bellevue police released video of the incident on Wednesday. The video shows a person dressed in black anxiously waiting to cross the street. Suddenly, the pedestrian crouches down and sprints across the intersection. Nearly to the opposite curb, the Tesla appears and the pedestrian runs smack into the driver's side door.

The pedestrian gets thrown back into the crosswalk, but jumps to his feet and flees on his skateboard. The Tesla, however, apparently didn't fare as well.

"The driver stated that she was driving westbound on Northeast 8th Street at about 35 MPH when a pedestrian ran into the drivers’ side of her vehicle. There was significant damage to the side of the vehicle, including the mirror," Bellevue police wrote on the department's blotter Wednesday.

Bellevue police said that "any time an individual is involved in a collision" that causes damage, they must stop and exchange information with the other driver - and that includes pedestrians.
