Traffic Delays All Weekend: I-90 Lane Closures Will Impact I-5 and 520

Eastbound I-90 will be reduced to one lane in Seattle through Monday morning.

Plan ahead if you need to travel along I-90 this weekend. There will only be one lane open near the Rainier Avenue exit in Seattle through Monday.

The lane closures will begin at 11 p.m. Friday and continue until 5 a.m. Monday. Traffic will be routed onto the express lanes from there. The closure will likely cause delays along I-5 and State Route 520, the state Department of Transportation is saying.

The lane closures are necessary to allow construction crews to do work inside the Mount Baker and Mercer Island tunnels as part of the I-90 two-way transit and HOV operations project. That work makes way for Sound Transit to begin construction in 2017 on the East Link light rail extension, which will run along the express lanes.
