Video: Robber Rips Necklace Off Woman In Bellevue

This is the latest in a series of necklace robberies across the Eastside, according to Bellevue police.

BELLEVUE, WA - The latest in a series of necklace robberies on the Eastside has been caught on camera.

A video released by Bellevue police Wednesday shows a woman being robbed in broad daylight as she crosses SR 520 on 148th Avenue Northeast.

This latest robbery took place near where at least two others have occurred in recent weeks. The robberies have happened in both Redmond and Bellevue near the Microsoft campus and Overlake Transit Center.

The other recent incidents include:

  • Around 3:30 p.m. on May 7 near the intersection of 148th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 40th Street, a woman was walking down the sidewalk when a man approached and pulled her necklace off. The robber ran west through the Timberwood apartment complex, but police did not locate him.
  • On May 10 around 4:15 p.m., a woman was talking on her cell phone at the bus stop along the 4800 block of 156th Ave NE. The robber walked up to her, slapped her phone out of her hand, and kicked her when she attempted to pick up the phone. The suspect then ripped the woman's gold necklace from her neck and ran off toward nearby apartments.

Bellevue police have released a sketch of the robber, which you can see here. There have been a total of nine necklace robberies on the Eastside since last fall, according to police.
