Widespread T-Mobile Outage Cuts Service In Washington

T-Mobile customers across the nation are experiencing issues with voice and data services, the Bellevue-based cell carrier confirmed Monday.

BELLEVUE, WA — T-Mobile is working to correct a widespread service outage, affecting customers in Washington and across the United States. The Bellevue-based cell carrier confirmed the issue — impacting both voice and data usage — on social media Monday afternoon.

Forbes reported similar outages among other major mobile carriers, internet providers, streaming services, social media platforms and online video games. Some have speculated that the United States was the target of a coordinated cyberattack.

DownDetector, a website that tracks tech-related service issues, showed more than 117,000 outage reports for T-Mobile by noon, with especially apparent problem areas in the Seattle region, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and New York.

According to Washington Emergency Management, 911 centers across the state reported issues with certain incoming calls. The Redmond Police Department confirmed the NORCOM dispatch center was unable to receive calls from T-Mobile customers.

The cell carrier said its data services were restored around 3 p.m. It was not immediately clear what may have caused the interruption, or exactly when all voice and messaging services will be restored.
