With some of the top-ranked wrestlers in the state (according to various published sources) at the event, the Shoreline Invitational is viewed as an opportunity to face wrestlers the caliber of those they would see leading up to state.

The eight team format also allows for a much quicker pace of action, without as much need for the required 45 minute break in between matches for a given participant.

Jimmy Trull had a dominating performance for the Wolverines at 215 lbs, pinning all three of his opponents on the way to a tournament title.

Bellevue coach Tom Ovens was generally pleased with the performance of his team and excited about the opportunity for the experience of facing some of the top wrestlers in the state.

"We just have got to finish up the tournament and learn to win the tournament. For some of these kids it will be their first tournament championship, so it's good practice," said Ovens.

Peter Johnson had a very similar performance to Trull, scoring pins against Aaron Feagin of Shorecrest in 1:31, Carson Fulmer of Nathan Hale in only :29 and Joel Smith from Shorewood in 3:39 on his way to the 189 lbs title.

At 152 lbs, Colin Small scored two pins and defeated another opponent by descision, 8-0 en route to taking home a tournament championship.

Small and the five other Wolverines who won their weight class certainly lived up to their coach's expectations for the tournament.

"Most of the kids that I thought would make the finals made it," said a pleased Ovens.

Connor Hudson pinned all three of his opponents for a championship for the Wolverines at 140 lbs as well.

Peter Ovens did the same at 145 lbs for the Wolverines and coach Ovens.

Matt Casimes pinned his first opponent in under ten seconds before defeating his second 9-7. Casimes then faced one of the top wrestlers at 119 lbs, Brandon Leach of Shorewood and was pinned in 3:25.

"Those are two guys that are highly thought of in the state, so it's good competition," Ovens said of Casimes' match against Leach.

Jun Park rounded out the Wolverines who won their weight class, pinning Kyle Floresca of Shorewood in 3:48 to win the 135 lbs weight class.
