Amazon Hiring Event This Week Seeks 2,000 Employees

The jobs are a mix of seasonal and full-time roles at fulfillment centers around Puget Sound.

SUMNER, WA - Amazon is aiming to hire about 2,000 people for seasonal and full-time fulfillment center jobs. The company will host a hiring event in Kent Wednesday with the promise of on-the-spot job offers.

Last week, Amazon announced it would raise the company minimum wage to $15 per hour, including in fulfillment centers. Puget Sound fulfillment center workers were making about $13 per hour to start, plus benefits like bonuses and stock options. Those benefits that will no longer be available when the new $15 wage kicks in Nov. 1.

Amazon's education benefit - 95 percent prepaid tuition for courses in high-demand fields - will still be available to employees that work for a year or more.
