The Sumner Pool is open and available to the community

The Sumner pool is open again!! After being closed to the public for almost two years, Sumner / Bonney Lake Aquatics has taken over day to day managment of the pool.  Director Diana Ekstrom has a passion for swimming.  I've known Diana for a number of years and she believes everyone, regardless of age, should know how to swim and be comfortable, as well as safe, in the water. We here in the Pacific North West are surrounded by lots of water so there are plenty of opportunities to swim and play in the lakes and ocean. This was her diving force to keep the Sumner Pool open  - to use her experience as a coach and instructor to teach, and to allow the citizens of Bonney Lake and Sumner to have year-round access to a pool.

The Sumner pool is open weekdays from 5:30 in the morning until 9:00 at night.  On Saturdays, it is available from 6:00 in the morning until 7:30 at night.  On Saturdays and Sundays, it is available for special events like pool parties and private rental.  Diana has put together a schedule that will accommodate all kinds of activities and they have great rates,  including special rates for our community senior citizens.  Go to www.sumnerbonneylakeaquatics.org to see the schedule and to sign up for the various programs.

Lap swimming, water walking, shallow and deep water aerobics classes are are now happening again.  She has a USA swim team, the South Sound Titans,  that train in the evenings from 5:30 to 7:30. This is a youth program for swimmers that have moved beyond swim lessons.  Visit www.southsoundtitans.org  for more information.

Speaking of swim lessons, Sumner Bonney Lake Aquatics offers swim lessons for infants, kids and adults in the morning and in the evening.   Visit the web-site to see the classes offered and the times. If you have a special request, please call and Diana will work hard to figure something out to accommodate your schedule.

For all of you that train for triathlons and would like to improve the swimming portion of the race, Blue Wave Aquatics (www.bluewave-aquatics.com )  is coming to the Sumner  pool . It also is a great  opportunity for adults to join a team to keep swimming competitively. Please contact Coach Wendy at: wendymal@mac.com .  This program will be in place on November 1st.

Diana is really excited that in November, the pool will be offering Aqua Zumba!  This is an even better Zumba work out with the use of resistance in the water. Watch for details to be posted on the sumnerbonneylakeaquatics.org web site.

On Saturday October 29th, a Halloween party is going to happen starting at 5:00pm.  It will have a pirate theme and will feature a treasure hunt for kid ages 4-13.  Cost is $5 or $4 if you bring a can of food that will be donated to local food banks.

I really encourage you to come check out the Sumner pool again.  It is open after two long years of being unavailable to the public and is operating as a non-profit business. You will notice a lot of positive changes, a clean fresh look, a friendly staff, and a new attitude - focused on you as a customer and making swimming and exercising fun again.

Can't wait to see you at the pool!! Happy Swimming!
