Attend A Workshop, Help Keep Lake Tapps Clean

From Cascade Water Alliance: A community open house Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department and Cascade Water Alliance launched the new Lake TappsWise program, designed to get everyone involved in keeping Lake Tapps reservoir healthy and clean. The program provides free information and workshops on natural yard care and septic maintenance for Lake Tapps residents.

“By making a few small changes, everyone can be a part of protecting the environment and preserving our Lake Tapps way of life,” says Cindy Callahan, Environmental Health Specialist with Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, “including access to clear water for boating and swimming for ourselves and our families. Lake Tapps is a regional gem — a recreational resource and the center of the community.” Cascade Water Alliance CEO Chuck Clarke added “And it’s a reservoir owned by Cascade Water Alliance for future municipal drinking water use. Together we can keep Lake Tapps healthy and clean for everyone.”

The process to become certified is easy. Start by signing up online here or calling 253.798.2856 for information on the program and to schedule a free TappsWise certification visit. A local expert will schedule a visit to provide practical suggestions for a resident’s lawn and yard. It’s not an inspection, just a way to provide personalized support to help resident’s keep Lake Tapps clean and healthy. Participation in the TappsWise certification program is completely voluntary and there is no obligation to take any actions following the visit. Incentives are available to homeowners through the Lake TappsWise program to significantly lower the cost of a septic system inspection and pumping

Two Lake TappsWise workshops are scheduled in May at the Tapps Island Clubhouse, 20818 Island Parkway E, Lake Tapps. More will be scheduled later in the year. Join us:

Saturday, May 5, 10 am to noon: Natural yard care tips and practices.

Wednesday, May 16, 6 to 8 pm: How to keep your septic systems working properly.

The workshops are free, but registration is required. Space is limited, register at TappsWise@TPCHD.org.
