Boys Swim and Dive: Sumner Takes Third at Districts

The Sumner boys swim and dive team had an impressive showing at the West Central District meet, finishing third.

A week after finishing fourth in the sub-district meet, the Sumner boys swim and dive team rode an array of impressive individual and relay performances to a third-place finish at the District meet on Saturday.

Connor Powers-Hubbard scored a meet record time with a 1:51.06 showing in the 200 free and was also part of the 200 medley relay team (Zane Gustafson, Powers-Hubbard, Trent Powers and Sam Rigsby) that finished second at the meet with a time of 1:49.04. Powers-Hubbard also finished second in the 100 breast with a personal-best time of 1:03.18.

Evan Quaschnik followed up his sub-districts first-place finish in the dive competition with a solid second place finish at districts.

Gustafson finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.17, while Powers took second in the 100 free with a personal-best time of 50.84. 

The 400 free relay team of Powers, Powers-Hubbard, Pietro Postal and Rigsby placed second with a time of 3.35.81.

The team will try to build off its district showing next week at the boys swim and dive state championship meet (Feb. 18-19) at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
