A Community At Its Best

I am thoroughly impressed with the integrity and resourcefulness of my neighbors and our community. 

Living in the Carbon Canyon may have its challenges at times, but I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Your adrenaline really gets going when there are 3 landslides between you and the way out, or 50 -60 downed trees hanging precariously above your head along a 1 mile stretch of narrow, winding road with a sheer drop of 400’ on one side and a 100’ vertical rise on the other.

We rely on the State and County to keep our roads open, but in a large widespread storm like the one we all experienced a few weeks ago, we’re not exactly high on the ‘priority list,’ if you know what I mean. And, that’s where the locals come in; we are a tenacious group, determined to get out one way or the other.          

I want to thank everyone who pitched in and helped, especially my neighbor Dan, who drove ahead of me, stopping every 50’ to cut a tree out of our way with his chainsaw.  Kudos to Chuck’s Service Station in Wilkeson and Jay and Gaillene Argo, owners of the Burnett Store and Chevron station; the only gas stations for miles with back-up generators to run their pumps.  I am very proud to be a part of this community.
