Monday Morning Quarterback
Brief recap of the Seahawks/Dallas game and then a stroll down memory lane.
I am going to make this quick. Seahawks were on the road and lost to Dallas. I again did not like the clock management in the fourth quarter when down by 17. The Seahawks were still running the ball and running the clock down. They used up five minutes to score their only touchdown of the game. It was like they were in no hurry and had given up. Final score Seahawks 13-23
By the Numbers:
* Dallas had 304 total yards in the first half.

* Tony Romo had a QB rating of 112.2 and Tarvaris Jackson 40.4 (enough said)

Marshawn Lynch had his first regular season 100 rushing game since joining the Seahawks.
There is only so much I can keep repeating with another Seahawks loss. So I thought I would have some fun and take a stroll down memory lane and recap the Nov. 6 1983 game instead. It was the Seattle Seahawks at home vs. the Denver Broncos 28 years ago.
Remember those days when the Seahawks were still in the AFC West and played in the Kingdome on that awful Astroturf. Weather was never a factor with a steady 72 degrees and no wind.
Chuck Knox was coaching the Seahawks and Dan Reeves the Broncos. Who can forget "Ground Chuck"; rookie running back Curt Warner had a 134 yard rushing game. His only higher rushing game that season was against Kansas City when he had 207 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Seahawks starting QB was Dave Krieg who took over as starter from Jim Zorn mid-season. The Broncos were sharing the QB position with Steve DeBerg and some young rookie named John Elway (I wonder how his career turned out?).
Who can forget that Seahawks defense which included Dave Brown and Kenny Easley who both had interceptions. Along with Jacob Green and Jeff Bryant who both had sacks.
The first quarter was not much excitement with two Norm Johnson field goals. Broncos cut the lead in half during the second quarter with a field goal of their own. End of the first half Seahawks 6 Broncos 3.
Third quarter things start to heat up with Dave Krieg throwing two touchdown passes to Paul Johns and Steve Largent. Let's pause and remember what it was like to have a receiver like Steve Largent who knew how to catch a ball, hold on to it and take a hit. Broncos' running back Sammy Winder ran it in for a touchdown but Rich Karllis missed the extra point. Score at the end of the third quarter Seahawks 20 Broncos 9.
Early in the fourth Broncos kicked a 43 field goal. Then the scrambling speedster Dave Krieg ran it in 10 yards for a touchdown. John Elway towards the end of the game throws a 25 yard pass to Steve Watson for a touchdown. I think John Elway might have thrown for a few more fourth quarter touchdowns in his career. Final score Seahawks 27 Broncos 19.
The 1983 season was the first time the Seahawks made it to the playoffs and hosted these same Broncos in the AFC Wildcard game. They went on to beat the Broncos in a rout 31-7. Seahawks got their first playoff road win down in Miami against another rookie QB Dan Marino (not a bad career for him either). Seahawks miracle run ended with a loss on the road to the L.A. Raiders.
This was a special team that also included Dr. Dan Doornink, Manu Tuiasosopo, Joe Nash, Mike Tice and Paul Moyer. This 1983 team will always hold a special place in my heart. It was my first taste of the NFL playoffs and how exciting they are when your home team is playing.
