Monday Morning Quarterback

Recap of the Seahawks/Rams game.

Seahawks on the road taking on the St. Louis Rams.  Biggest question going into the game was how the offensive line would hold up after losing two of their starters this week to injuries.  The good thing is they were up against the Rams who have the worst rushing defense in the league.

Seahawks start the game on offense and on their first play from scrimmage run a trick play with Sidney Rice throwing the ball down field to MikeWilliams for a 55 yard gain (Seahawks may have found their back-up QB).

On the very next play Tarvaris Jackson throws an interception.  He had a rocky start with his first two passes being intercepted.  At least two of his sacks he held the ball to long when he should have thrown it away.  He would end the day with 1 TD, 2 INT's, 4 sacks and a passer rating of 55.6.

It was the Seahawks defense that kept them in the game and held the Rams to only one touchdown.  They got that on their second drive of the game.  You can't say enough how improved the pass coverage is with cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner.

The Seahawks defense held the Rams to 185 total yards with 42 rushing yards.  They sacked Sam Bradford five times with Chris Clemons having three of the sacks.  The Seahawks defense even caught the eye of the Wall Street Journal, who this week had a story on their innovative defense.  Here is the link : http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204323904577038380379674656.html

The best play of the game came in the fourth quarter when Brandon Mebane tipped a Sam Bradford pass that the big-man Red Bryant caught.  He managed to exchange hands the ball was in and then stiff arm a Rams player to have a five yard return.

I still did not like the Seahawks time management at the end of the first half.  They ended the first half by kicking a field goal with the ball on the one yard line.  With only three seconds left on the clock they had to kick the field goal since there was not enough time to run any plays to try for a touchdown.  The bad part about it is they went into the locker room with one timeout still on the board.

It is a good thing those four points did not matter in the game since the Seahawks won 24-7.  They now get ready for the struggling Eagles at home next weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving! (Family, Food and Football)

By the numbers:

Sidney Rice's one pass gave him a passer rating of 118.8.

Seahawks again had 100 yards in penalties.

Total of 19 punts this game, Rams had 10 and the Seahawks had 9.

Seahawks time of possession was 35 minutes to the Rams 25 minutes.

Fun Fact:

The Seahawks defense has not allowed the Rams Steven Jackson to rush for more then 100 yards against them in eight seasons.  The best game he has had against the Seahawks was 93 yards.
